At Trinity Mirror, Manchester, there was a problem with the fork lift trucks skidding on the concrete ramp up to the paper loading dock. This was caused by rain water being brought onto the surface from outside in the tyre treads of the vehicles. Once the ramp was wet the fork lift trucks were sliding dangerously therefore an anti-slip floor coating was required. The ramp was used every day which left a very short window available to rectify the problem.
Maintenance Supplies Contracts were asked to install an anti-slip floor coating. MSC installed two coats of Grip-Seal epoxy resin with a calcined bauxite aggregate. MSC used their fast cure epoxy floor coating, Grip-Seal LTC, in order to get the job done in the short time scale available. The work started at 6.30am after the daily news reel had been delivered. The surface was vacuum shot blasted to get a key. Two coats of Grip-Seal LTC were applied two hours apart incorporating the anti-slip aggregate. The surface was cured for foot traffic after 4 hours and truck traffic after 8 hours.
