Maintenance Supplies Contracts have completed another successful program of work at a fresh water treatment site in Derbyshire for Severn Trent Water. There were three staircases and various floor areas that were unstable and slippy. The floor surfaces were made of a failed concrete screed externally and worn ceramic tiles inside and therefore needed anti-slip systems implementing.
Inside the tiles were diamond ground and an adhesive applied before the installation of 6mm GRP anti-slip pre-formed stair covers and landing covers. The top tile was taken out and the surface screeded so the new cover matched the floor level exactly with no trip hazard. In one area the edge trims had to be colour coded in line with DDA regulations for low visibility with yellow at the top and bottom and white on the rest of the staircase. Externally the floor area had to be excavated to a sound substrate and a resin damp proof membrane applied. The surface was then screeded to bring the level back to the correct height. Then we installed 6mm GRP anti-slip pre-formed stair covers, landing covers, and flat sheets to the walkways. We also installed steel railings to match the existing railings which we had fabricated ourselves. All joints were sealed up to prevent the ingress of moisture. This system is designed to last in excess of 25 years.
