A busy Halal sheep-processing factory in the Midlands. 2000 sheep per week arrive for slaughter and the separate joints are then prepared. 80% of the abbatoir’s production is sent to London daily. The plant is at full capacity and as such there is limited time for maintenance and refurbishment.
WHAT THEY NEEDED
An aggressively anti-slip surface for their 260m2 slaughter room floor that could be easily jet washed clean. The job had to be completed over a weekend. The existing floors were scabbled concrete coated in a paint/resin that was wearing away or lifting off the surface. The heavy-duty nature of the process as well as the constant presence of animal entrails during production meant that durability and hygiene were key factors.
WHAT WE DID
After customer staff had cleared the area on Friday afternoon, we washed and dried the floor surface. Using our own dust-free vacuum shot blasting machine, we then blasted the existing surface to remove the coating and any contamination. The thorough process we use also creates an ideal key for the resin system, so ensuring bonding is permanent. During the course of Friday night and Saturday, we installed a multi-layered resin and aggregate flooring system. After 24 hours curing time, the floor was ready for production to start again on Monday morning.
The customer was very satisfied with our quick work on site and with the floor’s performance, finding the anti-slip and easy-clean properties exactly what they needed. As a result, they asked us back to do the same again in the boning room.
