Food factories have a requirement for a floor finish that is both hygienic and anti-slip. To be hygienic food factory flooring has to resist aggressive cleaning chemicals as well as boiling water, hot fat and oil spillages. It must also resist steam cleaning. To be anti-slip it must contain an undulating profile that will grip footwear even when wet or greasy. These are laid from 6mm to 9mm thick depending on the application in hand. These floors need to be extremely tough and durable. They come in a variety of colours.
Polyurethane Flooring Coatings and Self Smoothers
Polyurethane flooring coatings are resin rich coatings that are used in areas such as food factory flooring, kitchen flooring and areas outdoors where there is a need for high UV stability. These are laid as coatings of 200 microns per coat up to self-smoothing resin floors from 1mm to 5mm thick.
Polyurethane Screeds
The screeds are laid from 6mm to 9mm thick depending on the application in hand. Polyurethane flooring screeds are predominantly used in food factories where the floors need to be anti-slip, resistant to steam cleaning, tough and durable. Polyurethane flooring screeds come in a variety of colours.
We install a bespoke range of food factory flooring grade finishes as follows.
GRIP-SEAL PU/RT69
This is a ‘rake and trowel’ grade polyurethane screed that is installed between 6mm to 9mm thick.
This anti-slip floor finish will withstand steam cleaning and micro-biological swab testing.
GRIP-SEAL COVE150
This is a Polyurethane coving material to give the floor to wall joint a hygienically, cleanable finish and
will eliminate the chance of food debris being trapped in corners of the floor. The coving is finished with
a ‘birds beak’ top edge and surfaced coated with a polyurethane coating to seal the faced production
areas need to be out of action for as short a time as possible.
Photos above show our install at Loxtons foods. An old and worn out food factory had to be refurbished in three weeks. Most of the internal walls were knocked down and rebuilt. MSC were responsible for installing new floor screeds and coving detail. The prep areas were green in colour and cooking areas were done in red. Most of the floor was resurfaced in Grip-Seal PU screed at 9mm thick and 100mm high coving detail around the perimeter of the floor. This is a steam cleanable anti-slip resin screed specifically designed for the food industry.
