Case Study #14

Kingsfield Electronics Case Study

What they needed

Kingfield Electronics is a major manufacturer of electronic components in Chesterfield. As part of their manufacturing process, they needed a flooring system that could stand up to the stresses of their business, and not interfere in the manufacturing. This meant that the floor needed to be both hard wearing and anti-static. Kingfield Electronics had to expand, and moved into an old industrial warehouse. Roe Developments were the primary contractor involved in developing the site, and Maintenance Contracts were sub-contracted to complete a large flooring system of approximately 3000m2.

What we did

Maintenance Contracts needed to consult with Kingfield Electronics to decide on their flooring system. We decided that they needed a floor that was both sturdy and anti-static. We needed to remove the entirety of the existing flooring system. This needed us to vacuum shot blast the area down to a level base. We then applied a special electrically dissipative primer, with a copper tape system. On top of this, we applied a 2-3mm Self Smoothing grey resin by trowel. This resin contains carbon micro-fibre. This, along with the copper tape and primer system, transfers any static electricity through the floor to the earth point.

Client feedback

The job was completed in time and within budget to a satisfactory standard.
