Why do garages need specialist flooring?

Garages and car workshops are some of the most brutal environments for your flooring. It needs to have a high degree of chemical resistance, be able to handle heavy traffic and machinery, and be hard to damage to avoid chipping and flaking. Having a bare concrete floor is not ideal as when exposed to industrial grade oils and chemicals it can absorb them, leaving permanent markings and an unsafe environment.

Epoxy resin flooring is resistant to harsh chemicals, which makes it ideal for workshop flooring. When oil or slippery substances are used it becomes a safety hazard that needs to be cleaned. Unfortunately, this cleaning requires the use of heavy duty chemicals. If a concrete floor was in place then these chemicals could be absorbed into the flooring and present a safety hazard. However, as resin flooring is non absorbent and resistant to harsh chemicals. Due to this resistance it is unlikely to be damaged, stained or otherwise marked by material falling onto the floor.

Due to the epoxy coating on the flooring, it is extremely easy to clean. Due to the smooth surface on the flooring a spill usually only requires a wipe to clear and the day to day maintenance is just a simple mop.

Resin flooring can have a non slip coating applied to provide a slightly textured surface for additional safety. In workshop conditions, where things can leak or spill, protection against slips and falls is crucial. It is also important in cases of wet conditions when your garage door may be open and letting in water which again can create an unsafe environment.

You may need one area of flooring to be customer facing and have a gloss finish, but the main area of the garage floor may need to have painted markings to direct vehicle traffic or mark out production areas.
